About BJAK
The original mission of BJAK is that we believe people deserve smarter ways to plan, save, and grow their money. This is the origin of our name.
Started in 2019, we built the first mobile-first insurance platform, enabling insurance to be accessible online by millions in the region. Today, it's the leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia.
Today, we are expanding ways to help people in the region — this includes spending, saving, investing, exchanging, travelling, and more. Our mission is to help people get more from their money every day.
We have teams working around the world, with over 20 nationalities from our offices and remotely, who truly enjoys their work. We are looking for the most talented and driven people we can find. We are looking for people who work for their passion, not counting hours. Who loves building great next-generation products, not the status quo. Who cares about redefining how everyone around us can get the best financial applications, not for an exclusive few.
If you're this person, we'd love to talk to you.
About the Job
We are looking for talented Native Android Engineers to build and evolve our Android applications that power BJAK's insurance and financial products. You will also contribute to features that leverage automation and AI-assisted capabilities where they improve user experience and operational efficiency.
This is a fully remote position where you will be part of a global engineering team working across multiple countries to build reliable, scalable native mobile systems.
What You'll Own
Design, develop and maintain high-performance native Android applications using Kotlin.
Build intuitive user experiences across insurance, payments, claims, renewals and financial services.
Work closely with product managers, designers and backend engineers to deliver seamless native mobile experiences.
Integrate backend APIs while ensuring application stability, responsiveness and scalability.
Optimize app startup time, rendering performance, ANR rates, crash rates, memory usage and battery efficiency.
Continuously improve code quality through testing, code reviews and engineering best practices.
Build AI-assisted native mobile experiences where they provide genuine value for users.
Stay up to date with the latest Android platform capabilities and recommend improvements that enhance product quality.
What We're Looking For
3+ years of native Android development experience using Kotlin.
Strong experience building and shipping production Android applications.
Solid understanding of Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, Coroutines, Flow and modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM/Clean Architecture).
Strong knowledge of Android lifecycle, performance optimization and native platform best practices.
Experience integrating REST APIs and debugging production issues.
Comfortable working independently in a distributed remote engineering team.
High ownership, fast execution and strong attention to engineering quality.
GitHub, Google Play links or examples of shipped native Android applications are highly preferred.

Writes clean, scalable and maintainable code while moving quickly.
Comfortable working with changing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
Identifies UX, performance and reliability improvements before they become customer issues.
Takes ownership from implementation through production.
Honest about personal contributions and measurable impact.
This Role Is Not For
Engineers who prefer cross-platform development over native Android engineering.
Developers who only implement screens without considering the overall user experience.
People who ignore performance, crashes, ANRs or platform-specific best practices.
Engineers who struggle in a fast-paced startup environment.
Candidates who cannot clearly explain what they personally built.
Success Looks Like
Native Android features are delivered quickly and with high quality.
The application feels fast, responsive and reliable across a wide range of Android devices.
Users complete financial journeys smoothly with minimal friction.
Production stability and performance improve with every release.
BJAK delivers one of Southeast Asia's best native Android experiences for financial services.

The process consists of three stages:
Online Coding Assessment
We assess coding fundamentals, problem-solving ability and code quality.
Technical Interview
We assess native Android development, architecture, Android platform fundamentals, API integration, debugging, performance optimization, UX thinking and production-quality engineering.
CEO Interview
We assess ownership, execution speed, ambition, judgement, integrity and alignment with BJAK's builder culture.
Please share links to your Google Play applications, GitHub repositories, portfolio or examples of shipped native Android applications where possible. We value real-world engineering experience, clear ownership and honest thinking more than a formal cover letter.
